The people of Reykjavik woke up to a beautiful thick coat of white snow, the first real snowfall of the winter.

According to the Reykjavik road administration, snowploughs were hard at work at 4 am to clear main streets and walking paths.

Although most of the city's streets are cleared of snow, smaller ones may be more difficult to pass and drivers are urged to drive carefully and to make sure to clear all windows of the car of snow. Traffic is also expected to be slower than usual.

The weather forecast in the capital area is for - 3° to -15° C tonight and tomorrow with even colder temperatures in central Iceland.
