Today is the deadline for sending Christmas cards by second-class post to destinations outside of Europe if you want your nearest and dearest to receive them on time for the big day.

The Icelandic Post Office has published a detailed timetable of latest posting days for Christmas for various types of post and destination. Your cards and parcels must be post-marked on the following dates (or earlier) to be guaranteed to arrive on time.

  • 3 December – for cards by second-class post (known as ‘B Post’) outside Europe
  • 4 December – for packages by sea to the Nordic countries
  • 7 December – for packages outside of Europe
  • 10 December – for cards by first-class post (known as ‘A Post’) outside Europe or by B Post in Europe
  • 14 December – for packages and air mail in Europe
  • 15 December – for packages by air mail to the Nordic countries
  • 16 December – for cards by B Post in Iceland or by A Post to Europe
  • 18 December – express delivery outside Europe
  • 21 December – for card and packages in Iceland or express delivery in Europe

Given the current wintry weather conditions, the Post Office also asks for people’s help in enabling their drivers and postmen and women to work effectively.

“By thinking about access to driveways and buildings, clearing snow and putting down salt, residents in Iceland will be helping postmen and women and drivers to get mail to its destination as quickly as possible, while reducing the dangers posed by snow and ice.”
