The Football Association of Iceland (KSÍ) has announced it decision to back the bid of Italian Gianni Infantino to become the next President of FIFA.

Infantino is currently General Secretary of UEFA and is one of five candidates running for the position of FIFA President. All 209 member nations of FIFA have a vote in the secret ballot, to be held on 26 February.

“We have in-depth knowledge of his work as UEFA General Secretary, where he is greatly respected,” says Geir Þorsteinsson, Head of KSÍ, who considers Infantino to be the man to lead FIFA out of the corruption-related problems that have blighted the Federation.

Infantino is up against HRH Prince Ali Al Hussein (Jordan), Sheikh Salman Bin Ebrahim Al Khalifa (Bahrein), Jérôme Champagne (France) and Tokyo Sexwale (South Africa).
