Arrests made after gang fight in Reykjavik
Four men were arrested after an armed fight broke out between two gangs of young men in a Reykjavik shopping district on Saturday.
According to witness reports, two groups of men in their thirties arrived at the Skeifan shopping district just before 6 o’clock on Saturday afternoon in seven or eight cars and proceeded to noisily goad each other. The groups were reportedly of two different nationalities.
Violence suddenly broke out with 4-5 men engaging in a fight, in which one of them was hit over the head with a hammer. A witness saw other men brandishing a club and a knife.
Most of those involved in the fighting had fled the scene by the time the police arrived, but four arrests were made. The men detained have subsequently been released.
