The news stories and skyline cranes in Iceland’s capital may give them impression that hotel-building is only going on in Reykjavik.

But this is not the case, with interest in land for hotel-building keen in many other parts of the country.

In West Iceland, for instance, many enquiries have been made about land for a new hotel in the town of Stykkishólmur on the famous peninsula of Snæfellsnes. The Hringhotels chain is planning to expand its Hotel Stykkishólmur to house 179 rooms.

Further north, in the town of Sauðárkrókur, investors are reportedly in the process of planning a new 60-80 room hotel.
