Katrín Tanja of Iceland wins 2016 CrossFit Games, defends ‘World’s Fittest Woman’ title

Icelandic CrossFit champion Katrín Tanja Davíðsdóttir won first place in the women’s competition at the 2016 CrossFit Games last night, defending her title as ‘World’s Fittest Woman’. Another Icelandic woman, Ragnheiður Sara Sigmundsdóttir, won third place.

“I am very happy. From the beginning of the competition, I just took on one challenge at a time,” Katrin Tanja said after the results were announced. “I am enjoying the journey, this has been unbelievable.”
Katrin Tanja’s prize consists of $275,000 USD (34 million ISK) and a Glock handgun. Ragnheiður Sara receives $60,000 USD (7.3 million ISK) for placing third.
This is the fourth time in six years that an Icelander has won first place in the women’s championship at the CrossFit Games. Katrín Tanja placed first last year, and Annie Mist Þórisdóttir won first place in 2011 and 2012.
