Iceland is responsible for the training of Ukrainian naval officers on board the Icelandic Coast Guard. The naval officers have been on board the Icelandic Coast Guard ships recently and received practical training in maritime studies, surveillance, and operations at sea, such as search and rescue. The project is part of a training project of NATO and the Icelandic Coast Guard is responsible for the implementation in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ defence office.

Director of the Icelandic Coast Guard, Georg Lárusson, says that the project has been a success and that another group is expected soon.

Five men from Ukraine, who were part of the crew of the patrol ship Þór, in the last trip,” Lárusson tells Morgunblaðið, adding that the group received a wide range of training and was able to learn about Icelandic sea conditions.
