The Blue Lagoon has been evacuated but the eruption began at the Sundhnúkagígar crater row at 20.23 tonight.

This is confirmed by Helga Árnadóttir, Director of Sales, Operations and Services at the Blue Lagoon, in a conversation with mbl.is.

It is estimated that about 700-800 guests and employees were at the Blue Lagoon when the eruption began. Árnadóttir says that the evacuation went well. She thanks the guests for their understanding of the situation and the employees for their quick and professional work.

The eruption is located on the Sundhnúkagígar crater row between Hagafell and Stóra-Skóga-fell, rather closer to Stóra-Skógafell, at a similar location to the eruption on February 8.
