The Court of Appeals has confirmed the detention of a foreign man who has been in Iceland repeatedly, is under a double re-entry ban in the Schengen area, and has been expelled and deported from Iceland. The court ruling states that the man has used three different surnames.

It is stated in the custody decision of the District Court of Reykjavik, which was later appealed to the Court of Appeals, that the man arrived in Iceland on February 28. He was taken into custody because of suspicion that he did not meet the conditions for entry to the country.

Under a double re-entry ban

The man traveled as a tourist and had changed his last name since he was deported. The new last name was his wife’s last name but it is stated that he had married in February. The man traveled on a valid passport.

The court heard that the man had been to Iceland and used three different surnames. The police department examined his case and found that athorities had repeatedly been involved in the man’s case and he was under a ban for entering the Schengen area from June 12, 2019 to May 22, 2025.

A review of the Schengen surveillance systems has also revealed that the defense party is in fact under a double re-entry ban, the latter in effect until  July 17, 2026. Despite this, the man had his new passport stamped in Hungary.
