The government-owned real estate company Þórkatla completed the first purchase agreements for residential housing in Grindavík yesterday. The real estate owners in Grindavík will receive 95% of the purchase price of their property the next week.

This is stated in a notice from the company.

The purchase was made electronically through island.is.

“The process that has been evolving at island.is includes an electronic purchase agreement, electronic signatures, and, for the first time in Iceland, electronic registration of purchase agreements in real estate transactions.”

675 applications received

675 applications for the purchase of housing have been received by Þórkatla and residents of Grindavík can continue to submit requests until the end of the year.

“Parts of the applications will need special consideration and will take a little longer to process.”

The company’s goal is to complete the processing of a large number of applications that have already been received this month.

“We are very pleased to be here, having started buying real estate in Grindavík. We will send people a notification when a decision is made to buy their property and immediately after the electronic signature, the contract will then go to an electronic notarization. We will pay out 95% of the purchase price a few days later and the rest at the signing of the deed,” commented Ernir Viðar Skúlason, CEO of Þórkatla real estate company.
