Katrín Jakobsdóttir, the former Prime Minister, has taken the lead in the latest poll by Prósent Polling and Market Research, with 22.1%. Former CEO of The National Energy Authority,  Halla Hrund Logadóttir, has lost a significant share of support, however, with just under 20%, just above Professor Baldur Þórhallsson with 18.2%.

Here is the support for the five top runners in the presidential race from yesterday and the changes in recent weeks. The gray column shows how they polled last week.

Halla Hrund Logadóttir has been leading the race for quite a while, but her support seems to be dwindling in the last polls. The same can be said for the other two frontrunners, Baldur Þórhallsson and Jón Gnarr.

These findings were presented at the presidential meeting of Morgunblaðið newspaper, which took place at the Green Hat in Akureyri, north Iceland, yesterday. Katrín Jakobsdóttir was the guest of this meeting, which was available this morning and open to all on mbl.is.

Halla Tómasdóttir on the rise

The CEO Halla Tómasdóttir is on a roll with 16.2%, surpassing actor and former Mayor of Reykjavík, Jón Gnarr, with 13.4%. Lawyer Arnar Þór Jónsson is a bit behind with 6,0%, while other candidates have about or below 1%.

This is the first time Jakobsdóttir has been at the top of the weekly poll of Prósenta Polling firm for Morgunblaðið and mbl.is, although her support has not taken a jump, since she has been higher in some of the previous polls in the past.

The biggest difference is how quickly Halla Hrund’s support has changed since her rapid rise four weeks ago. Halla Tómasdóttir has gained momentum, so most of the top candidates are in the same area. This is quite telling, as the gap between the top four candidates is only about 6%. It looks like the last two weeks could be very exciting in the presidential race.
