Nadia Tamimi, strore manager in Reykjavik has received hate messages following her speech at the panel discussion which took place on Saturday on Muslims in Iceland. The speech received wide attention and in it, Tamimi addresses prejudice in Iceland against Muslims which she believes has gotten worse.

Tamimi, who is a Muslim, told mbl.is that she had had enough of prejudice and therefore decided to tell her story at the panel discussion.

"Lots of people left nasty comments on the news stories online covering my speech," she explains. "They also sent text messages to my phone." The text messages cannot be traced as they were made via the Nova website but Tamimi has gone public with alll the hate texts she has received. "I think its good that people actually see this. It might deter those who send these kind of messages." She adds that, thankfully, most of the response to her speech was positive.

In her speech, Tamimi, who is half-Icelandic and half-Palestinian, said that as a child people were less prejudiced and were just interested in her background.

"Today it's another story. I almost have to defend my faith every day, defend my people and correct misunderstandings about Islam. Now people look at this beautiful faith as some kind of terrorist organisation and we are called murderers. "
