Iceland at EU security talks

Three Icelandic MPs are currently attending the first 2015 Inter-Parliamentary Conference on the EU's Common Foreign and Security Policy in Riga, Latvia.

The talks, which will run from 4 to 6 March, is being attended by representatives from the 28 EU Member States and from the European NATO States of Iceland, Norway and Turkey. Iceland is represented by three members of the Alþingi Foreign Affairs Committee: Birg­ir Ármanns­son (chair), Ótt­arr Proppé and Silja Dögg Gunn­ars­dótt­ir.

"The Conference is held twice a year in the country holding the Presidency of the European Council. The agenda for these discussions includes EU policy on neighbouring countries to the East, cooperation between EU and NATO in dealing with new security threats, and the situation in the Middle East. Speakers at the conference include Federica Mog­her­ini, the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and Ed­gars Rin­kēvičs, the Latvian Foreign Minister," according to a press release from the Icelandic Parliament ('Alþingi').
