Pirates still most popular party in Iceland

The Icelandic Pirate Party (‘Píratar’) is the most popular political party in Iceland, according to a recent poll conducted by Gallup in Iceland.

30% of Icelanders said they would vote for the Pirate Party if elections were held today. This is an increase of eight percentage points from the previous poll. Support for the party has doubled since February of this year. The Pirate Party received 5% of the vote in the 2013 general elections, giving them three seats in the Icelandic Parliament (‘Alþingi’).

The second most popular political party in Iceland is now the centre-right Independence Party (Sjálfstæðisflokkurinn), with 23% support. The Social Democratic Alliance (Samfylkingin) polled at 14%, while Bright Future (Björt framtíð) enjoys the support of 8% of Icelandic voters. The Progressive Party (Framsóknarflokkurinn) has the support of 10% of voters according to the Gallup poll.
