Ten teams join Startup Reykjavik

Ten teams have been selected to participate in the Startup Reykjavik Accelerator Programme this summer.

The ten teams were from 150 applicants and announced at the annual Startup Iceland conference earlier this week. The Startup Reykjavik Accelerator Programme is run by Iceland’s Arion Bank and was recently voted best accelerator programme in the Nordics for 2015.

The ten teams participating in Startup Reykjavik 2015 are:

  • Wasabi Iceland – Growing wasabi in greenhouses in Iceland by using clean water and green energy in hydroponics to produce a high quality product.
  • Kvasir software – Kvasir Software takes the concept of board games and modernises it. Your smartphone is the controller and your TV is the board.
  • Farma – Connecting electronic IDs to central electronic prescription databases, and gives customers a secure way to purchase medicine online from their pharmacies.
  • Viking Cars – A car-sharing platform that enables people to share their cars with others in a safe way. Just like Airbnb, but with cars.
  • Spor í sandinn – A sustainable aquaponic biodome connected to a premium geothermal spa focusing on local community and tourists to perceive and learn from a green innovation and production facility.
  • Genki instruments – Genki Instruments, the future in music production hardware. Complete the puzzle.
  • Three42 – An open platform for vehicle data and other connected devices.
  • Delphi – Utilising the wisdom of crowds and design a community that allows its users to make predictions about future events.
  • PuppIT – Real time motion capture solutions for movies, theater, games, TV and VR in a fast and cost effective manner.
  • Hún/Hann Brugghús – Premium beer(s).

Startup Reykjavik is a seed-stage investment programme that runs a ten-week programme every summer. Each participating company receives ISK 2 million (approx. €13,600) in seed funding from Arion Bank in exchange for 6% of their equity.

During the programme, the teams will have access to customised training and mentors, office space, various networking opportunities, and the chance to pitch their ideas to angel investors and venture capitalists at the end of the programme.
