Icelandic neurologist and CEO of DeCode Genetics Kári Stefánsson has apologized for calling Iceland's Prime Minister Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson an obese two-year-old boy. Stefánsson made this remark about the PM in an interview in the Reykjavik Grapevine about his online petition to save the Icelandic healthcare system.

The comment about the PM in the Grapevine interview was as follows:

“I have no rivalry with the prime minister,” said Kári before breaking into a smirk “Why should I have a rivalry with this obese two-year-old little boy?"

Stefánsson apologized on Rás 1 national radio saying "this shit is my responsability and the Prime Minister won this round with 10 to zero." He added that the Prime Minister was in many ways "a witty, clever and handsome young man."

Stefánsson and the PM have been involved in recent spats over the petition and Stefánsson's criticism of the healthcare system.
