Morgunblaðið photographer Árni Sæberg traveled to the West Fjords in August. We posted some of the photos he took on this trip earlier this month , and here is the second half of his travel log, which was published in Morgunblaðið, where he was interviewed by Orri Páll Ormarsson.

Árni traveled to the West Fjords with an English friend of his, Katherine Sherlock who, despite having lived in Iceland for four years, had never been to this part of the country.

They decided to go ahead with the trip although the weather forecast was less than ideal. Once they got there, they were told that before their arrival, the area had seen six weeks of continuous rain.

This may, however, have contributed to the special light and clear colors that awaited them.

Katherine was quite impressed by the landscape, Árni states. “Every five minutes, she exclaimed, ‘Wow’ and insisted I stop the car. Then she rushed out to take pictures on her new phone to send to her parents in England.”

Katherine is interested in photography and painting, and the landscape far exceeded her expectations, Árni states. “The West Fjords are the most beautiful part of Iceland she has seen. No question about it. Not only because of the light and the nature, but also thanks to the peace and quiet. You get rid of all stress when driving to these unique fjords.”
