Violent Storm Forecast for Southeast Iceland

There is severe weather in the forecast for Southeast Iceland and the East Fjords, and no travel is advised in the Southeast between midnight and 10 am tomorrow.

The Icelandic Met Office has issued a yellow weather alert for those areas, effective in the Southeast from 8 pm till midnight and in the East Fjords from 9 pm until 9 am tomorrow.

A northwesterly severe gale or storm is expected with wind gusts in excess of 35 m/sec in the East Fjords and in excess of 45 m/sec in the Southeast.

An orange weather warning has then been issued for Southeast Iceland from midnight till 10 am tomorrow. A northerly storm or violent storm with sustained wind speeds of 25-33 m/sec is forecast, and wind gusts are expected to exceed 45 m/sec. Transport disturbances are expected, and no travel is advised.

A severe gale or storm will continue in the Southeast tomorrow until 2 pm. Isolated roads may be closed, a sandstorm is likely in the area, and travelers should closely follow the weather forecast on vedur.is.
