"We are living in Iceland, after all"

Birgitta Björg Jóns­dótt­ir, the directing manager of Into the Glacier, which is behind the ice tunnel in Langajökull, says that the earthquake last Thursday has not impacted their business in any way. A 4.6 M earthquake was detected 13.8 km south of Eiríksjökull glacier, under Langjökull last Thursday.

he earthquake was felt in all of the Western part of Iceland, north to Húnvatns county, in the Reykjavik area and all the way south to Rangárvallasýsla as well as a series of post earthquakes that followed.

Not worried about more earthquakes

"Thish has no effect on what we are doing. There are no signs of earthquakes on the glacier, even though we felt it in Húsafell and also some of the post earthquakes. After conculting with the police in the Western part of Iceland and The Icelandic Met Office and The Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management we decided to operate as usual, like nothing had happened. We are in full swing and have not been impacted by this earthquake in any way."

Asked if they had detected earthquakes in the area, she says they have felt a few earthquakes close to the glacier, but never in the ice tunnel. "There was one earthquake last April, but we have never had a staff memeber in the tunnel when this has happened so we have not experienced it."

She is not worried about future earthquakes in the area. "No I have no anxiety. We take one day at a time and we are living in Iceland, after all."
