Unusually Many Test Positive at Border

A total of 18 people tested positive for the coronavirus at Keflavík Iternational Airport yesterday, mbl.is reports. This was a group of people who reside in Iceland and were traveling abroad.

Chief Epidemiologist Þórólfur Guðnason stated at this morning’s press conference that possibly, more infections will be traced to this group. All 18 people are awaiting the results of antibody tests.

“This is an unusually high number of positive tests at the border,” he stated and added that this was an indication the pandemic is on the rise abroad and that it proves the importance of border testing.

A total of 81 new domestic cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Iceland yesterday. The good news is that 80 percent of the people diagnosed were already in quarantine.

At present, there are 1,170 active cases of the disease in Iceland. There are 26 people in the hospital with COVID-19, three of them in intensive care, and two of those on ventilators. The 14-day incidence per 100,000 inhabitants, including cases at the border, stands at 290.2.
