There are plans to ease restrictions on public gatherings in Iceland, beginning January 13, mbl.is reports. This was confirmed by Minister of Health Svandís Svavarsdóttir. The following changes will, however, be reassessed should the COVID-19 pandemic appear to be on the rise again. The new rules will be in effect through February 16.

The plan is to increase the maximum number of people allowed to gather from ten to 20.

Fitness centers will be allowed to resume operation to a very limited extent. Only group lessons with no more than 20 participants will be allowed.

Sports for all age groups will be permitted.

Sports competitions for all age groups will be permitted, but no spectators allowed.

Ski areas will be allowed to operate with restrictions. People who are not part of a group should not share a chair on a chairlift with others.

Theaters and other cultural events may have up to 50 people on stage. Up to 100 adults and 100 children, born 2005 and later, may attend each event. The same applies to movie theaters.
