Scenes for the adventure/fantasy film Dungeons & Dragons, set to be released in the US in March of 2023, were recently filmed in Iceland, with the participation of between 60 and 70 people, Morgunblaðið reports. In part of the film, Icelandic landscape will play an important role.

The cast will include movie stars  such as Chris Pine, Michelle Rodriguez, Justice Smith, Regé-Jean Page and Hugh Grant. The film will be written and directed by Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley.

The scenes shot in Iceland were the first ones to be shot for the film, which will almost exclusively be filmed at Titanic Studios in Belfast, Northern Ireland.

None of the actors traveled to Iceland for the scenes, since Icelandic stand-ins were used in their place.

About 15 people visited Iceland to take part in the project, on which they worked at various locations in South Iceland. The Icelandic film production and service company Truenorth Productions supervised the filming on site.

This is the second visit by a foreign film crew to Iceland in a short time. Last month, an Yves Saint Laurent fashion show was filmed on Reynisfjara beach. See or report here.

Dungeons & Dragons is based on an eponymous fantasy tabletop role-playing game, designed by Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson, first published in 1974. In the year 2000, a British-American fantasy film, based on the same idea, was released, directed by Courtney Solomon and starring Justin Whalin, Jeremy Irons, Thora Birch and Marlon Wayans.
