Smiles and Celebration at Swimming Pools

Swimming pools opened anew in Iceland yesterday, after being closed for three weeks in an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19. The atmosphere at the pools was festive. Pool guests congratulated one another, smiling from ear to ear. Groups, used to meeting for their daily chat in the hot tubs, were in such desperate need to talk that they kept chatting for much longer than usual.

Not only swimming pools reopened yesterday; so did fitness centers and Nauthólsvík geothermal beach, Reykjavík.

The cheerful women in the photo above welcomed the opportunity to swim in the cold ocean, after which they enjoyed a comfortable moment in the hot tub.

Four new domestic cases of COVID-19 were confirmed in Iceland yesterday, according to covid.is. Only one of the people diagnosed was in quarantine. Three new cases were confirmed at the border. The 14-day incidence per 100,000 inhabitants has again dropped below 20 and now stands at 19.6.

A total of 28,614 people in Iceland have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19, while another 41,444 have received the first of two shots.
