Restrictions regarding public gatherings were eased in Iceland today, mbl.is reports. The new rules will remain in effect through June 16.

The maximum number of people allowed to gather has been raised from 50 to 150.

The two-meter social distancing rule continues to apply between people who are not closely connected.

In schools and after-school activities, at swimming pools, restaurants and at events with seated guests, a one meter social distancing rule applies.

The obligatory use of masks is now rather the exception than the rule, since the use of masks will neither be required in stores nor at workplaces.

Still, masks must be worn at events where guests are seated, such as at religious ceremonies; stage, cultural and sports events; conferences and lectures. At such events, up to 300 people may be present, instead of 150.

Restaurants where alcoholic beverages are served, as well as nightclubs and bars, gambling machines and arcades, may stay open until 11 pm every night of the week, with a maximum of 150 guests in each area. All guests must be registered by name, ID number and telephone number. Alcoholic beverages are to be served to seated guests. All guests must have left the location by midnight.

Swimming pools and fitness centers may now admit the maximum number of guests their licenses allow.
