“Today is the First Day of Summer, and for a change, the weather outlook is good for the whole country,” a meteorologist at the Icelandic Met Office remarks.

The forecast calls for easterly winds of 3-8 m/sec. Partly cloudy skies in the northern part of the country, and slight precipitation in the south and west tonight. Fog is likely in the East Fjords. Temperatures will range between 7 and 15°C (45-59°F).

This is a public holiday in Iceland, when families typically enjoy outdoor activities.

In many parts of the country, the Scout Movement has organized parades, barbeques, and various entertainment for families.

In the capital area, festivities are planned at the following locations:

Árbær Open Air Museum and at Hraunbær 123, from noon till 3 pm,

Laugardalur Family and Pet Zoo, 2-5 pm,

Grafarvogur, Logafold 106, 1-4 pm,

Neshagi 3, Reykjavík, noon-3 pm

Hafnarfjörður — Víðistaðakirkja church and Thorsplan square, 1-4 pm,

Garðabær — Vídalínskirkja church and Miðgarður, 1-4 pm,

Mosfellsbær — Miðbæjartorg square and Varmá, 1-4 pm.

In addition, festivities are planned in Reykjanesbær (Keflavíkurkirkja church and Hringbraut 101) and Selfoss (Tryggvagata 36), Southwest Iceland, in Akranes (Akraneskirkja church and Vinaminni), West Iceland, and in Akureyri (Þórunnarstræti, Akureyrarkirkja church, and Hamrar camping ground), North Iceland.
