Staged plane crash at Reykjavík Airport

A lot of people were involved in a plane crash drill at Reykjavík Airport earlier today. A planecrash was staged and first responders were trained in how to manage this kind of situation and respond correctly.

The plane crash drill was a big operation and involved a lot of people from different sectors, such as airport staff, the police, the Fire Department, ambulance operators, hospital staff, the Department of Civil Protection and Emergency Management, rescue teams, the Red Cross, priests, investigators and others.

Many people living in the surrounding neighbourhoods might have been alarmed seeing the smoke coming from the airport, but part of the drill was to manage fire in cars.

The police had sent an announcement to the media before the drill reporting that the operation was due to the drill, and not a real life accident.
