Reykjanesbær will in cooperation with the government receive up to 350 refugees.
Minister of Social Affairs and Labour Guðmundur Ingi Guðbrandsson, Kjartan Már Kjartansson, the Mayor of Reykjanesbær, and Nichole Leigh Mosty, director of the Multicultural Information Center, signed an agreement on a coordinated reception of refugees yesterday at the Reykjanesbær town hall.

“The coordinated reception of refugees extends to people who have been granted international protection or residence permits on humanitarian grounds in this country. The goal is to ensure continuity and equal service for refugees, regardless of where they come from and in which municipality they settle,” the notice on the website of the Government Office of the Ministry of Justice states.

The fourth contract

This is the fourth agreement signed on a coordinated reception of refugees in a short time. In addition to Reykjanesbær, Reykjavík, Árborg and Akureyri have signed an agreement with the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labour.

Following the signing in Reykjanesbær, Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir met with the town authorities along with Guðbrandsson and representatives of both ministries. It was explained how the municipality welcomes refugees and the scope of the service.
The ministers met as well with the town authorities in Suðurnesjabær and studied the affairs of unaccompanied children on the run.
