A car roll over occurred just before 10 am this morning near Kvísker in Öræfi. The area has been subject to harsh westerly winds today, with maximum wind speeds of 29 meters per second at 10 o’clock. At that time gusts of up to 49 meters per second were recorded.
Windows shattered in stationary cars
Windows of stationary cars in the same area shattered in the wind. According to information from the Police in South Iceland, some people are injured, but it is still not known how many. Injuries are both due to the car roll over and some minor injuries due to windows shattering.
The highway has been closed
Hrafnhildur Ævarsdóttir, chairperson of the rescue team Kári the Öræfi rescue team, says the gusts are very difficult in this area in this wind direction.
