The force of the eruption at Sundhnúkagígar crater row is similar to what it has been. The two lava tongues have not moved at all overnight, according to a natural hazard expert.

“This is continuing with similar intensity,” says Sigríður Magnea Óskarsdóttir, a natural hazard specialist at the Icelandic Met Office. “There’s quite a bit of life in this,” she adds, when questioned about the magma activity, which is still going on.

She says that the craters have built up, especially on one side, and two of them are the largest.

As for gas pollution, Óskarsdóttir says it’s northerly wind direction and has started to subside in the area. The pollution will spread to the south today. The pollution in Reykjanes has not been high last night.

Earthquake activity is almost none.

Drones will be sent over the eruption site today but she doesn’t have information about whether a helicopter will fly over it too.
