Icelanders send condolences to Russians

Condolences have been extended to the Russian Embassy in Iceland in the wake of the terrorist attack in Russia on Friday. Ambassador Ivan Glinkin says it is invaluable to feel the support from the Icelandic people.

At least 137 people were killed, including three children, in a terrorist attack on the concert hall Crocus City, near the Russian capital Moscow. 11 people have been arrested in connection with the case.

Tens of people send their condolences through an e-book

The Embassy opened an e-book on Saturday to send condolences. Glinkin reports that dozens of letters have already been received, but the e-book is open through today. Many people have also sent their condolences to the Russian people on the Embassy’s Facebook page.

Will answer all who write in the book

“The greetings have come from Icelandic, Russian, and people from other countries living in Iceland,” Glinkin says. A group from Serbia and other countries came to the embassy and talked to the employees. They gave their warm words of support and brought flowers and candles, Glinkin says.

“This is a tragedy and people here in Iceland express their condolences to the Russian people and support the families of the victims.”

Today, the collection of condolences will continue and Glinkin expects tomorrow to begin answering every one. Books intended for condolences have been used before but not in electronic form. When Mikhail Gorbachev, the former leader of the Soviet Union, died, a book of condolences from Iceland was sent to Moscow and stored in archives there.

He expects a similar move to take place now.
