Still not clear when the Blue Lagoon will reopen

The Blue Lagoon is closed over Easter and no decision has been made on when it will open again. Helga Árnadóttir, the company’s director of sales, service, and operations, says that the decision was made in collaboration with authorities.
“We are facing a new challenge, which is gas pollution. We are working to update risk assessments and other measures in this regard,” she says.
Use the time to assess the situation
She adds that the company’s management intends to use the time to understand the situation and learn about it.
The number of gas meters has been increased and the company received the weather office to install meters in the area so it would be easier to assess the situation and understand how the gas flows through.
Not responsible to keep the lagoon open
Almost a week ago, the Chief of Suðurnes Police, Úlfar Lúðvíksson, said that it was hardly a good idea to open the Blue Lagoon while the volcanic eruption is still going on and the wind direction is constantly changing.
Árnadóttir says that the company’s executives agree.
“We are trying to get a better handle on this new challenge and we are not going to open until we have done that.”

Taking one step at a time
It has not been decided when the lagoon will resume operations and in an announcement on the company's website, it is reported that the operations will be closed through Monday, April 1. Árnadóttir says that they are taking one step at a time.
“We decided to give us a good time now. We’ll see how the eruption develops and how we’ll be able to manage the situation,” she says, asked about the next steps.
