Travelers to Iceland to Be Tested Twice, Starting August 19

At a press conference that just ended, Prime Minister Katrín Jakobsdóttir announced that starting Wednesday, August 19, every person arriving in Iceland will be tested for the coronavirus at the border, required to spend four to five days in quarantine, and subsequently be tested for the virus again.

This is the route described by Chief Epidemiologist Þórólfur Guðnason as the most effective way to contain the spread of the pandemic in Iceland.

The decision was made in response to several new domestic cases having been confirmed in Iceland almost daily since July 23, and due to a similar development in other countries.

The new rules have not yet been posted on the government website, but it is to be expected that they will be, soon. When that happens, they should be posted here.
