In October 2008 saw the collapse of three major banks in Iceland plunging the country into financial crisis. People lost a great part of their savings and the Icelandic state was almost bankrupt. The general public were outraged and protests took place outside banks and public buildings.
At the same time, mbl.is had just started shooting video material and has an archive of footage from this tumultious time in Iceland's history. Here's a look at the atmosphere of Iceland ten years ago, in October 2008.
At the beginning of the footage you can see interviews with people who had rushed to their bank to take out their savings, only to find that they were all gone.
