Kimi Räikkönen hjá McLaren var í þessu að vinna ráspól ungverska kappakstursins í Búdapest. Sló hann Felipe Massa á Ferrari við á síðustu sekúndum tímatökunnar. Þriðji hefur keppni Rubens Barrichello á Honda og liðsfélagi hans Jenson Button varð fjórði en sætir afturfærslu vegna mótorskipta. Kappaksturinn í Búdapest er sá hundraðasti á ferli Räikkönen í formúlu-1. Hann hóf einnig keppni á ráspól í Hockenheim fyrir viku.

Ráspóllinn er hinn 11. sem Räikkönen vinnur á ferlinum. Alveg fram á síðustu sekúndu lokalotunnar virtist allt stefna í að Massa ynni jómfrúarpól sinn en Räikkönen var ekki á því.

Hondaliðið er í mikilli framför ef marka má árangur Barrichello og Buttons. Sá síðarnefndi færist aftur á 14. rásstað vegna mótorskipa í framhaldi af æfingu í morgun.

Pedro de la Rosa hjá McLaren og Mark Webber á Williams skutust sömuleiðis ofarlega á lokamínútunni og hefja keppni í fimmta og sjötta sæti. Annars voru áhorfendur fyrirfram sviptir þeirri skemmtan að sjá Michael Schumacher á Ferrari og Fernando Alonso á Renault blanda sér í toppslaginn.

Þeir settu tvo langbestu brautartímana en komust ekki gegnum aðra lotu tímatökunnar og í keppnina um 10 fremstu sætin þar sem þeir höfðu fengið tímavíti fyrir akstursbrot á æfingum í gær og dag. Vegna tímavítis varð Schumacher í 12. sæti og Alonso í því 15. Sá fyrrnefndi hefur keppni sæti framar vegna afturflutnings Buttons.
