Felipe Massa á Ferrari var í þessu að vinna keppnina um ráspól tyrkneska kappakstursins. Er það fyrsti ráspóll hans á ferlinum. Annar varð liðsfélagi hans Michael Schumacher, þriðji Fernando alonso á Renault og fjórði liðsmaður hans, Giancarlo Fisichella.

Ralf Schumacher á Toyota varð fimmti en færist niður í 15. sæti vegna mótorskipta. Fyrir vikið færist Nick Heidfeld á BMW upp í fimmta sætið og þar á eftir hefja keppni Jenson Button á Honda, Kimi Räikkönen á McLaren, Robert Kubica á BMW og Mark Webber á Williams. Tíunda rásstað fær svo Christian Klien á Red Bull sem hlaut 11. besta tímann.

Michael Schumacher ók hraðast bæði í fyrstu og annarri lotu tímatökunnar. Honum mistókst hins vegar tvisvar í fyrstu beygju hringsins í lokalotunni og kostaði það hann að líkindum fyrsta sætið að lokum.

Athyglisvert er að nýliðinn hjá Super Aguri, Sakon Yamamoto, var fremri hinum reynda liðsfélaga sínum Takuma Sato.
