Joan MacDonald var komin yfir sjötugt þegar hún fór að æfa reglulega undir stjórn dóttur sinnar. Skjáskot/Instagram

Það er aldrei of seint að taka heilsuna föstum tökum. Hin 74 ára Joan MacDonald er lifandi sönnun þess en hún var komin yfir sjötugt þegar hún ákvað að taka sig á og breyta um lífsstíl. MacDonald er í dag léttari og sterkari en áður. Hún er einnig vinsæll líkamsræktaráhrifavaldur á Instagram. 

MacDonald hefur náð ótrúlegum árangri með hjálp dóttur sinnar en hún þjálfar hana. Í sumar birti hún myndskeið af sér gera einfalda æfingu með handlóð frá því í fyrstu æfingavikunni fyrir þremur árum. Við hliðina má sjá hana gera æfinguna í dag og er hún ekki bara sterkari heldur er líkamsstaðan öll betri. Hún greinir þar frá því að hún hafi losað sig við tæp 30 kíló. 

Aukin lífsgleði hefur komið í kjölfar æfinganna og er MacDonald einnig með meira sjálfstraust en áður. Ánægja MacDonald geislar af henni á myndum sem hún birtir á samfélagsmiðlum. Hún nýtur þess meðal annars að klæða sig í falleg æfingaföt og smart sundfatnað. Ef kona á áttræðisaldri getur tekið sig í gegn á þennan hátt ættu fleiri að geta gert það.

My oh my what a difference 3 years and 65 lbs can make! 😅 . I can vividly remember those bicep curls in the first video taken in the first week of my transformation journey with @yourhealthyhedonista . Michelle kept barking at me to pull my stomach in and keep my eyes open. I was beginning to think she was trying to kill me 😛 I was in Mexico, it was hot and humid, and I was suffering from hypertension and acid reflux. I also had vertigo which has also gone away along with the other issues since getting back in shape. 🎉 I have so much gratitude to that gal on the left who slugged it through all of those issues plus low self-esteem but who stayed the course, allowing me to be where I am today. 🥳 I look back to those years with the utmost gratitude and awe, and I promise to her that all my actions and attitudes today will pay respect to her hard work and her big dreams. I will never take my health or my habits for granted again! Let’s all fall in love with the work that has to be done to bring us the freedom and the joy and the energy that we want to experience every day 💕💪 #olderandwiser . @womensbestwear True Top in Red 💕💕

I think the last time I wore a bikini like this was during a holiday in Florida, just before my third child. I was about 27 years old, so young and hopeful as to what life had in store for me and my budding family. So much has happened since that time, so many adventures, hard times, joys, tragedies, triumphs and disappointments. That’s life, isn’t it? It’s a marvelous unwinding ball of yarn that goes this way and that and we don’t always know how to make sense of it all until we get to the end of it. If I could go back in time and whisper in my ear what would I say? “My dear, do not forget to take care of yourself while you are taking care of everybody else around you.” “Be mindful. If you can learn to be present in each moment you will make better choices, build richer relationships and live a more fulfilled life” “Develop your patience and try not to get too caught up in the little things” “Try to see life as an adventure, and look for ways to keep exploring who you are and having fun” “Learn more about food and what it does for your body.
